Ride #262 Report

Ride Report # 262

Sunday Ride 8 March 2015

With 9 starters, old & new, we took to the roads with a spring in our step and the cool Autumn air in our face. Our route was through the Dandenong Ranges via Olinda, Monbulk and Emerald and then along the Macclesfield Rd to Yellingbo where we turned left and popped out the back of Wandin Nth for a quick pit stop.

From here we darted into Gruyere and took in the scenery of the hills and wineries along Medhursts Rd until we met Maroondah Hwy. Into the outskirts of Healesville, a quick left, left and a right, we headed up Chum Creek Rd to Toolangi and then down the Myers Creek Rd to our destination - All Moto Cafe - for lunch.

110kms, sunshine and smiles all 'round made for a great morning ride. Thanks to Craig, Brendan, Leigh, Alex & Naomi, Daggles, Bill & Graham.

Ride #260 Report Walhalla

Ride #260  Report  - Step back in time to Walhalla

It was a great turn out for the ride to Walhalla with blue skies and dry roads all the way, it was a perfect day.

With 11 starters, we took the hills through Silvan, Monbulk, Emerald, Cockatoo & Gembrook before popping out at Yarra Junction and then onto Noojee for morning tea.

After a short break, we headed for our destination via Willow Grove, Tanjil South, Erica and Rawson.

Walhalla was as picturesque as always and the serenity topped off a perfect day out. Our finish point was at Tyers, where the odometers clicked over 250km, before we made our way home.

Thanks to Laurie, Glen, Bob, Greg, Phil, Scott, Steve, Rhys, Georg & Kev for getting along.

Hope to see you all on the next ride.

Ride Report #258 Friday 21 November 20144

RIDE #258 Friday 21 November 2014

We left Lilydale under grey skies with a glimpse of blue in the distance.  Scott McLean, Bob Versteegen, Rhys O’Neil, Greg Nixon and me with my young bloke, Nicholas, who was on his first FLT Ride, meandered our way through Warrandyte, Kangaroo Grounds, Panton Hill and St Andrew’s on our way up to Kinglake.  At Kinglake we headed down the other side of the mountain towards Flowerdale and on to Yea for morning tea.

With a leisurely ride down the Goulburn Valley Highway towards Alexandra, we turned right onto the Whanregarwen Road, which is always nice, and headed to the outskirts of Alexandra where our club stalwart Scott had to leave us.  For the rest of us it was on-wards to Fraser National Park and across the top on the Skyline Road and down into Eildon.  By this time the cloudy skies that followed us out of Lilydale were well and truly gone and the search for shade and a cool breeze was on, so down the highway we went to The Black Spur Inn for lunch.

The day was finished off with a squirt down the Black Spur into Healesville where the odometer clicked over 246 km.  The roads, weather and company were perfect, so please try and make the next ride scheduled for this Sunday – details to follow.

Ride #256 Report

Ride # 256 Sunday 31 August 2014

Tour De Spurs

The last day of winter was fantastic with clear skies and temperatures in the 20’s.
The great weather and the promise of some great roads saw the Frontline Tourers’ out in force with 21 bikes on our Sunday ride.  This was our best turnout in ages.

Our lead rider “you can’t keep a good man down” Eric, led us from Lilydale to Yarra Glen, down towards Healesville, where we peeled off to Myers Creek road, back up to Toolangi, then back down to Healesville again via Chum Creek road.  These 2 roads are my favorites and they were in fantastic condition.

We stopped for morning tea at the new motorcycle cafe' on the Maroondah Highway in Healesville.  There were so many bikes it was like a mini bike show and we mingled with the 100 or so other riders who were on a vast array of old and not so old motorcycles.

From Healesville we made our way over the Black Spur to Marysville with the usual Sunday drivers, to tackle the Reefton Spur.  Fortunately the Sunday drivers all turned off towards Lake Mountain leaving the rest of the spur for the motorcycles to enjoy.

If you don’t like winding, twisting, dry, and fantastic country roads then this was not the ride for you.

Lunch was at the Reefton Hotel where we had a chance to catch up with our regular FLT riders, and introduce ourselves the new riders who came along for the ride.

The only issue for the day was when yours truly stopped on the side of the road near the pub and suffered the indignity of slipping over in slow motion on the slippery grass.  Fortunately only the pride was dented.

I hope to see you all on the next ride and I encourage you to bring along a friend and support our club.

Steve

Ride Report Ride #255 15 Aug 2014

The bright & sunny weather last Friday attracted both old and new members for Ride 255, and it was fantastic to see

such a good turn-out, including our newest member, Simon ‘SUMO’ Peeters, who had a couple of near misses with a

Pirelli Diablo on the run between St Andrew’s & Kinglake – he’ll know what I mean :-).

I lead the boys on dry roads from Narre Warren to Emerald via Upper Beaconsfield and then to Seville, Gruyere &

Coldstream where the clear skies turned to fog and the road to a hollow void, but only for a moment, as Yarra Glen

greeted us with more sunshine!  After morning tea we took the Eltham Rd to Christmas Hills where we peeled off and

headed for Kinglake.  The run between St Andrew’s & Kinglake was flawless, for most, and the views spectacular, as

was the run down the other side of the mountain through Toolangi & along the Chum Creek Rd to Healesville.

Sadly this was the end of the ride, but I can honestly say it was one of the more enjoyable day rides I’ve been on

in a while.

The next ride is scheduled for Sunday 31/08/2014 leaving from Lilydale and I hope that you can make it.
